Regimental Music

During the American Revolution, the British Army utilized musicians for a variety of functions.  Performing the camp duty (Reveille, Troop, Retreat, Tattoo, etc.), playing cadences and marches, signaling battlefield maneuvers, and carrying out punishments, drummers and fifers maintained an indispensable position in the army.  The recreated 63rd Regiment of Foot replicates this role with authentically reproduced instruments, uniforms, and music.  Besides performing two marches written for the 63rd Regiment, the drummer’s and fifer’s repertoire includes a variety of tunes and drum beats from late eighteenth century manuscripts and publications.
